The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially responded to the series of suspensions and fines the body got slapped with by Africa’s football governing body, CAF, in connection to the country’s Men’s Football Team’s involvement in a serious melee that broke out in the 2025 AFCON Final.
The North Africa nation’s football federation has since officially stated that it will appeal the decision by CAF. (Scroll down to view the official statement)
Morocco hosted the 2025 AFCON and made it to the final game but came unstuck against Senegal after losing 1-0 in extra time.
However, Morocco had the chance to win the game in regulation time but Brahim Diaz’s penalty attempt was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
In the lead up to the penalty though, Senegal players threatened to walk off the pitch and several players were captured in heated moments with game officials and Morocco’s entourage.

CAF fined Senegal a combined sum of $615,000 and fined Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw $100,000 and banned him for five CAF games in the aftermath of the final. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Morocco got fined $415,000 and had Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari suspended. Senegal accepted the punishment but Morocco have rejected it and have since confirmed that they will appeal CAF’s decision.

“FRMF believes the sanctions handed down do not reflect the seriousness of the incidents. In order to protect Morocco’s rights under the regulations, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially decided to appeal the decisions” a section of the FRMF’s statement read.
