Ghana’s U-15 girls team, the Black Damsels, have successfully defended their title at the CAF African Schools Football Championship, defeating Burkina Faso in a dramatic final.

The closely contested match ended level after regulation time, forcing the game into penalties where both sides showed remarkable composure.

Penalty Drama Seals Historic Win

The final, played in Harare, ended goalless after regulation time, with both sides unable to break the deadlock in a tense encounter.

However, the match exploded into life during the penalty shootout, where nerves of steel defined the outcome. Ghana held their composure to claim a thrilling 10–9 victory, sealing back-to-back titles in unforgettable fashion.

Road to Glory

The Black Damsels showed dominance and resilience throughout the tournament:

  • Group Stage:
    • 6–0 win over Guinea
    • 2–1 win over Tanzania
    • Narrow 1–0 loss to Burkina Faso
  • Semi-final:
    • 1–0 victory over Zambia, with Blessing Tettey scoring the decisive early goal

Despite their group-stage loss to Burkina Faso, Ghana returned stronger when it mattered most; on the grandest stage.

Back-to-Back Champions

This latest triumph confirms Ghana as the dominant force in the competition, having also won the 2025 edition in Accra.

Under head coach Sandra Boakye, the team has displayed remarkable consistency, discipline, and mental toughness.

Bright Future for Women’s Football

The victory is more than just a trophy; it is a statement about the growth of women’s football in Ghana.

From composure under pressure to tactical discipline, the Black Damsels have proven they are a generation to watch. Their success reinforces Ghana’s investment in grassroots football and signals a promising future for the women’s game.
