In the wake of recent player withdrawals from teams set to compete in this year’s World Cup to injuries, there were legitimate concerns Neymar Jnr could be the latest to miss out on competing in the tournament to physical ailment.
On the contrary, the Brazilian Football Confederation has stated that the veteran forward’s status remains unchanged in connection to the Selecao’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with tests showing that the former FC Barcelona player was recovering well from a calf injury after tests were conducted on Monday, June 8.
“The exam showed good progress in his treatment, within expected parameters. He will continue the recovery and physical preparation process planned by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff” the Brazilian Federation announced in a statement.
Due to the injury, Neymar has missed Brazil’s pre-World Cup friendlies against Panama (Brazil won 6-2) and Egypt (Brazil won 2-1).

He is set to miss Brazil’s opening game at the World Cup against Morocco on June 13. Brazil also play against Scotland and Haiti at the group stage.

Ederson replaced Wesley in the Brazilian team this past weekend; right full back Wesley got injured in the friendly win over Egypt.
