A convener of the Kumasi leg of the SaveGhanaFootball Demonstration, Collins Atta Poku, has summed up the main reason behind the protest’s postponement in an interview on Citi TV’s Football Made In Ghana.

The sports journalist says the demonstrators don’t want to be seen as litigants due to issues connected to the demonstration planned for Friday, February 23 but got called off so the conveners could dialogue with football stakeholders particularly the Ghana Football Association (GFA). “The GFA and office of the Speaker of Parliament have already spoken to us wanting to meet us. Beyond that too the Police actually informed us that the 25th anniversary celebration happening with the Manhyia Palace…and then also there are visitors Egypt and Tunisians (due to CAF Club competition games in Kumasi this weekend), so the Police will also have to be on the lookout for them.”

Sports Journalist Collins Atta Poku

“So we decided as a group that in order not to appear as litigants, why don’t we go and listen to what the officialdom has to say before we take our next action.”

The Accra leg of the demonstration took place on February 14 and ended with a petition submitted to parliamentarians representing the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
