Ghana National Men’s Beach Volleyball player, Paul Akan, has pointed to an injury picked up by his teammate as a major reason for the team’s exit at the ongoing African Games.
He said this in the aftermath of Ghana’s loss to Morocco in the quarterfinals at the Laboma Beach via a two straight set loss to the North African nation.
Ghana lost 16-21 and 17-21 to Morocco to crash out of the tournament and miss out on winning a medal in the competition.
In the Women’s Division, Ghana lost by two straight sets to Mozambique via an 8-21 and 9-21 loss in the quarterfinals.
Speaking after the loss, Akan explained that his teammate Seidu Adjanaku’s worrisome knee injury was an issue that prevented Ghana from operating at its best.
“In the game, we have a blocker and a defender so my blocker got injured so I need to switch with him to become the blocker. It developed a lot of problems for us…Injury is part of the game.”

The beach volleyball competition at the 13th African Games will conclude on Thursday, March 14 with the likes of South Africa and Morocco making it to the semifinals.
