Deputy National Sports Authority (NSA) Deputy Director-General, Abdul Majeed Bawa, has delivered a sharp retort to how much influence the poor state of the Baba Yara Stadium’s pitch played in Ghana’s loss to Angola.

Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium to commence its 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign with Felicio Milson scoring in added on time to stun the home side.

Prior to this loss, the Black Stars of Ghana had not lost a game at the Baba Yara Stadium since February 2000.

Head coach of Ghana, Otto Addo and head coach of Angola, Pedro Goncalves, slammed the poor quality of the pitch and Addo indicated that his team’s performance was affected by the poor pitch. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

However, the Deputy NSA Boss watered down the impact of the pitch on the result by suggesting that the state of the pitch didn’t stop Angola from getting the win in an interview with Asempa FM.

Deputy NSA Director-General Majeed Bawah

“Are they suggesting that the Angolans were playing in the sky? We assembled our professionals, they all played on the same pitch. So CAF has inspected the pitch and approved it for the game. If in the opinion of CAF, they felt that the pitch was not ready to accommodate the game, I’m sure they would have taken a decision against Ghana. We lost the game let’s just look at what happened.”
