West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has explained why Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus was substituted earlier than usual in West Ham’s match against Fulham in the English Premier League.

In his post-game interview after West Ham’s 3-2 win over Fulham at the London Stadium, Potter pointed to Kudus suffering from fatigue.

The 24 year old played 61 minutes in Potter’s debut win as West Ham head coach and was involved in the Tomas Soucek’s goal that put West Ham up 2-1; Danny Ings replaced Kudus.

“We ended up a little bit passive… So we moved Mo [Kudus] a little bit up and he helped us. Danny [Ings] coming on probably helped us with that, even though it’s a tough one because Mo’s a top, top player but he was really suffering.”

“Mo, I thought, from a tiredness perspective after a massive game against Aston Villa so, he’s going to be important for us on Saturday.”

West Ham take on Crystal Palace on Saturday, January 18 at 15:00 GMT.
