After quite a long wait, Florian Wirtz has scored his debut English Premier League goal with the German scoring in Liverpool’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1 at Anfield to extend its unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions with the run including five wins.
In an emotional game involving the EPL teams former Portugal forward Diogo Jota played for before his tragic death, the much criticized Wirtz got off the mark after struggling since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen for 100 million pounds.
French forward Hugo Ekitike dropped deep to midfield and held on to possession before playing Wirtz in on goal who proceeded to slide the ball past Jose Sa into the net.
Speaking after the game, Wirtz said he wished he had scored his debut league goal way earlier but is happy the moment did arrive.

“It was very nice the feeling on the pitch with the fans around. I was very happy and I still am. I was confident that I would score one day. I wanted to start earlier scoring and assisting but it was like this and I have to accept it. I just know that it will come and I try to keep going like that.”

“We played a brilliant first half. In the last 20 minutes, we made it a bit difficult. I cannot explain why. We have to change that. It’s not been an easy start for us but we’re doing better and getting the points” Wirtz said to Liverpool media.
