I’m very focused on Otake bout- Isaac Dogboe

WBO Super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe insists he is not underestimating his Japanese opponent Hidenori Otake in his first world title defense.

Dogboe became Ghana’s youngest ever world champion after defeating American Jessie Magdaleno to claim the WBO belt earlier this year.

The 25 year old says he is very much aware of the threat the experienced Otake poses, but is still confident of a knockout victory.

“Otake is very strong, physically strong. He has a great record. You can’t underestimate Otake. We’re not underestimating him at all.

He’s someone we have our eyes on, and we’re making sure, come Saturday, we are going to take him out.

“He is a good pressure fighter and a strong fighter. I’m going to use his pressure and his power against him.

“Japanese boxers have been fighting very well recently, and I am looking to do the same. It’s great for Japanese boxing when we come to America and do very well,” he told Top Rank Promotions.

The bout has been lacking the usual trash talking synonymous with most boxing bouts at this level, and Dogboe was quick to explain the reason.

“Otake is a gentleman. He’s so humble, and when two humble warriors come together, it’s mutual respect. And that’s how we’re taking it.”

The bout will take place on August 26, with the ring-walk expected to be around 2 am Ghana time.
