Sacking Chris Hughton is not the solution to Black Stars woes- Speaker of Parliament states

In a statement mirroring that of Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has called on football administrators to do more to improve the sport in the country. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

He said this in his address to Parliament after Ghana crashed out of the 2023 AFCON at the group stage without scoring a win in Cote D’Ivoire.

The exit marks the Black Stars the second AFCON edition in a row that Ghana has been eliminated from the continental championship without registering a win.

After Ghana’s elimination from the 2023 AFCON was confirmed, head coach Chris Hughton was dismissed; his contract was set to end on December 10 later this year.

However, the Speaker of Parliament believes Hughton’s sacking is the magic bullet that solves all of Ghana’s football problems.

“Sacking of coaches is not the panacea to the challenges. We must evaluate our football infrastructure, youth development programs, coaching standards and administrative standards to identify areas for improvement.”

A five man committee has been tasked to name a new Black Stars head coach in 21 days and the committee is chaired by Ghana Football Association Vice President Mark Addo.
