Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says that the minority in Ghana’s parliament will summon Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, to the house to provide a breakdown of a significant escalation in “operational expenses” for the African Games.
He said this in an interview with Citi FM, ahead of the 13th African Games that runs from March 8 to March 23 in Accra with the newly built Borteman Sports Complex and renovated University of Ghana Stadium as the main centres of activity.
The former Deputy Minister of Information and Education reiterated the need to summon Honourable Ussif to parliament due to the escalation happening after the original budget was approved in December.
“This budget was approved just a few days ago just (in) December last year. You can’t tell us that between December and now there has been some very rare, strange, cataclysmic development that will justify the budget for operational expenses going up by more than six times.”
“We are not going to accept that. That is why the minority (in parliament) has served notice that we are going to summon the Minister (Sports), we are going to demand a breakdown, we are going to demand detailed explanations on why this has happened.”
Sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah has committed to represent Ghana at the competition. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
