Ayew replaced Antoine Semenyo in the 79th minute and ended up scoring the winning goal for Ghana in the 94th minute off an assist from fellow substitute Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
Issahaku’s impressive cameo against Mali earned him a spot as a starter with Semenyo, Tariq Lamptey and Ernest Nuamah dropping to the bench.
Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana didn’t feature in the Mali game but has been named in the starting lineup against CAR in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Ghana rank third in Group I standings tied on six points with Madagascar and Comoros but the Black Stars trail the latter duo on goal difference.
