Head coach of Angola’s National Men’s Football Team, Pedro Goncalves, has chastised the state of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.
He blasted the terrible nature of the playing surface after seeing his team beat Ghana 1-0 in the opening game of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers for either nation.
Both set of players struggled to control the ball on the bumpy pitch and resulted in several lost possessions making for a painful game to watch for long stretches.
Milson scored in additional time after capitalizing on a poor clearance from Ghana to score the big win and end Ghana’s unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Stadium that lasted 24 years.
“We tried always to play football, the pitch is difficult. I think a country like Ghana deserves a better stadium, a better pitch for playing football because they are lovely players; they 9 in Morocco. a better pitch.”
Ghana’s loss puts the Black Stars in a difficult position in Group F as Sudan beat Niger 1-0; Ghana takes on Niger on Monday, September 9.
