Head of Public Relations and Strategy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, says he respects Black Stars head coach Otto Addo’s decision to include just one Ghana Premier League player in his latest call up to Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team.
He said this in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports after the Black Stars call ups for 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger this month was named.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare is the only player from the Ghana Premier League in the squad and Armstrong-Mortagbe believes Otto Addo and his technical team know best.
“We all listened to the coach, he (Otto Addo) said that his door is not shut on anybody. They as a technical team look at all the players available both domestically and from the foreign leagues. They look at the system, they look at the plan that they have for the team and based upon that, player for player, they select. So I‘d like to respect the decision of the coach.”

“Who wouldn’t like it if there are more players in the Ghana League in the National team? I defer to the coach’s selection all the time. We may wish that we see more GPL players but the coach has a job to do. Based upon the brief he’s been given to work towards, this is the decision he’s taken together with his colleagues, so be it.”
