Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil has won the Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup in his debut season with the club after his surprise move.
Paintsil scored in Galaxy’s 2-1 win in the MLS Cup Final over New York Red Bulls; the trophy grab is the sixth for the Los Angeles based club.
The Black Stars player opened the scoring with a smart finish by planting the ball under Red Bulls goalkeeper’s arm Carlos Coronel in the ninth minute.
Teammate Dejan Joveljic added Galaxy’s second in the 13th minute in a blistering start to the big game between the Eastern Conference champions New York and the Western Conference champions Los Angeles.
The goal is Paintsil’s 14th of the season in all competitions; in his first season with LA Galaxy, the former KRC Genk player also has eight assists in 34 games and after the win, he wrote on his X page stating,
“MLS Cup delivered. Great shift from everyone at this wonderful club. This is for you G’s we did this together.”
