Morocco’s National Men’s Football Team head coach Walid Regragui has hit hard at the notion that his team gets favoured by refereeing decisions and has gone on to state that his team wins games fairly on the pitch.
He made these comments in a post-game presser after Morocco beat Cameroon 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 AFCON that is taking place in Morocco. Brahim Diaz scored in the game to improve his tally in the tournament to five goals in five games.
On multiple occasions, Cameroon felt aggrieved by the calls of the referee Dahane Beida from Mauritania who replaced Egypt’s Amin Mohamed Omar as the main official for the game after Morocco protested against the latter’s selection.
Cameroon felt they deserved to be awarded a penalty in the second half when forward Bryan Mbeumo went down in the penalty box after contact on his leg but nothing was given and in his presser, Walid Regragui wasn’t happy that his team’s win has been tied to benefitting from favourable calls from the referee.

“Cameroon didn’t score, and the referee denied it. People want to make it seem like we’re favored by the referees. We win our matches on the field” he said.

Morocco take on the winner of the tie between Nigeria and Algeria in the semifinals.
