Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says grappling inside the penalty box during set pieces has gone too far.
He said this at a presser ahead of Man United’s tough English Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the St. James’ Park on Wednesday, March 4.
Man United head into the game unbeaten in six games since Carrick took over as interim head coach but expressed concern over the trendy way of scoring in the EPL this season with league leaders Arsenal leading the way in scoring from corners.
“I think it’s gone too far. It wasn’t long ago we were told you couldn’t lay a hand on anyone in the box and we were told it would be clamped down. It’s crept in, the success of corners and being able to put bodies close together has made more teams do it.”
“It’s understandable why there are so many teams doing it and trying it. In the meantime, you got to deal with what’s in front of you, and if it’s allowed, then you got to play to it” Carrick said.
