Ghana will announce its team for the upcoming African Senior Athletics Championships early next week, as President of Ghana Athletics, Bawah Fuseini, expresses confidence in the country’s readiness to host the event for the first time.
“We’re hopeful everything stays on track from now until May 12. From here, the team will move into camp. About 12 athletes will be selected, and by early next week, the team list will be released so we can begin preparations for boot camp and the Championships” he said.

The championship, scheduled for May 12 at the University of Ghana Stadium, is expected to attract athletes from other African countries, marking a major milestone for Ghana’s athletics development.

The event builds on the success of the 2023 African Games, which underscored Ghana’s growing capacity to organise major international competitions.
Speaking after the Accra Open Championships on Saturnday April 11, a key test event, Fuseini pointed to the quality of officiating as a clear sign of preparedness, noting that officials from the Confederation of African Athletics had given a positive assessment.
“The competition was top-notch. We used it to test our officiating readiness for the African Championships, and from where I sat with the Confederation of African Athletics CEO, they were given a pass mark. In terms of officiating, we are ready for the African Championships.”

With final preparations underway, selected athletes will head into camp as Ghana fine-tunes its readiness for the continental showpiece.
Fans are expected to rally behind top local talents including Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Edwin Gadayi, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, as the country prepares to host the continent.
