Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is adamant Ghana should qualify to the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite enduring an unsettled preparation period for the tournament.
He shared these remarks in a post game presser after Ghana drew 1-1 with Wales in a pre World Cup friendly in Cardiff which also marked Queiroz’s first game in charge of the team after taking over as head coach from Otto Addo in April.
Caleb Yirenkyi’s debut goal for Ghana put the Black Stars in the lead up early in the second half after dealing with heavy pressure from Wales in the first.
However, a cross from Nottingham Forest right back Neco Williams found Lewis Koumas for the headed equaliser. In his address, Queiroz said,

“We have to qualify for the second round and that is the main goal of our team…and when we qualify for the second round, the show starts. The real World Cup starts when it is the knockout stage and we want to be there.”
