The international friendly tie between Denmark and Ukraine was forced to be called off due to a medical emergency involving Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.

In the 65th minute, Eriksen grabbed his chest and collapsed on the pitch and after a lengthy treatment on the pitch by medical staff, the game was abandoned in the 79th minute.

The incident marked the second time Eriksen collapsed while playing a competitive game after his near death experience happened in the 2020 Euros against Finland.

Former Manchester United player Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (a heart pace maker device) in the wake of the first incident that forced him out of football for eight months.

However, unlike the incident against Finland, Eriksen quickly regained his consciousness after collapsing in the game against Ukraine and Denmark’s Team Doctor Morten Boesen confirmed this via a statement from the Danish Football Federation.

“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.”

“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.
