Black Stars Legend André Ayew supports Para Basketball with GH¢10,000 Donation at 2026 Volta Cup

Black Stars legend André Dede Ayew has donated GH¢10,000 to support the 6th Inter-Regional Wheelchair Basketball Championship during his visit to the Volta Region.

Ayew was in the region as a special guest at the 2026 Volta Cup, where he joined young footballers, athletes and members of the local sporting community for this year’s event.

During his visit, the Ghana international extended his support to the wheelchair basketball championship, which is being held at the Ho Sports Stadium, contributing GH¢10,000 towards athlete welfare and match-day operations.

The championship has brought together about 150 para-athletes from five regions across Ghana, providing a competitive platform for the athletes while promoting greater inclusion and participation in sport.

Ayew also took time to interact with the athletes, commending their determination and encouraging them to remain focused on their ambitions while continuing to push for greater opportunities through sport.

The gesture is part of a growing aspect of Ayew’s activities away from professional football. Over the years, he has maintained a strong connection with communities and young people, with his recent engagements taking him closer to grassroots football and the people who have followed his career.

From spending time with young people and playing community football in Tema New Town to similar engagements in Aboabo, Kumasi, Ayew has used such visits to interact directly with young footballers, share his experiences and encourage them to believe in their potential.

His visit to the Volta Region continued that connection, but this time extended beyond football.

By supporting wheelchair basketball, Ayew has also drawn attention to a group of athletes who often compete with considerably less visibility and resources, while reinforcing the importance of making Ghana’s sporting space more accessible and inclusive.

For a player who has spent much of his career representing Ghana on the international stage, these community engagements provide a different way of staying connected with the people and contributing to the development of sport at the grassroots level.

The GH¢10,000 intervention in Ho therefore represents another practical show of support for athletes and communities across Ghana, as Ayew continues to use his platform to encourage participation, inclusion and opportunity through sport.
