Deputy captain of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars, Thomas Partey, has been called up to the latest iteration of the team ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

The Black Stars take on Chad in N’Djamena on September 4 and Mali on September 8 in Accra with wins over both countries set to all but guarantee Ghana’s qualification to next year’s World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

However, Partey’s call up the Stars comes with a bit of controversy since the Villarreal player is dealing with legal issues after getting charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women in all.

He made an appearance at a London Court on August 5 and was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to make another appearance in court on September 2 just two days before the game against Chad.

Despite the ongoing legal battle, Partey secured a two year deal with Villarreal after leaving Arsenal as a free agent earlier in the offseason.

He has since played in both Villarreal La Liga games this season.
