Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Xavi Simons will miss the rest of the 2025-2026 English Premier League season to injury.

The Dutch playmaker will also miss out on competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to an ACL injury he picked up in Spurs’ league win over Newcastle United.

Simons was stretchered off in the latter part of Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday, April 25 and the injury was confirmed as an ACL tear which rules him out of action for several months.

The former RB Leipzig and PSV Eindhoven player was set to compete in this year’s World Cup with the Netherlands who have been drawn in Group F with Sweden, Japan and Tunisia and Simons was heartbroken by the news.

“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.”

“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup” Simons said on Instagram.

In his debut season at Spurs, Simons largely struggled to impact games while registering six goals and seven assists in 43 games in all competitions.
