New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has signed a lucrative contract extension with the National Football League (NFL) team.
The 24-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal worth $135 million, including $102 million in guaranteed money.
The Patriots announced the extension on Tuesday, September 8, ending a lengthy negotiations between Gonzalez and the team.
The 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft had been in talks with New England throughout the offseason, with negotiations dragging on before the two sides finally reached an agreement.
Reacting to the new deal, Gonzalez wrote on Instagram: “THANK YOU, LORD! PATS NATION LETS GO.”

Gonzalez’s contract beats that of Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Whitherspoon who recently signed a four year, $132 million with $101 million guaranteed.

Since being drafted, Gonzalez has emerged as one of the best defenders in the NFL and was named to the 2025 Pro Bowl Team and All-Pro Second Team in 2024. He starred in New England’s run to the Super Bowl that ended in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
