Sheila Penelope Bartels, a ranking member on a Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism, says the National Sports Authority (NSA) is working hard and should be given the benefit of the doubt.
She said this in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports after Day Two of the Committee’s hearing that had the NSA make an appearance.
The NSA’s Board Chair, Seth Panwum, spoke on behalf of the Authority at the hearing where he stated that the Cape Coast Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium are options to host Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October and not at a venue outside Ghana despite the country’s only CAF approved stadium-the Baba Yara Stadium-getting banned by CAF over poor conditions of its facilities. “I believe we have a competent team in place. A gaffe happened, they are working hard to ensure that the gaffe is resolved and they are working hard to ensure that our pitches meet up to the standards and requirements.”

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif spoke on Day One of the hearing and shed light on how Ghana’s contingent at the 2023 AFCON in neighbouring Cote D’Ivoire sent three million dollars despite crashing out of the tournament at the group stage.
