On Friday, PSG were ordered to pay Mbappe €55m in unpaid wages after the French league’s appeals commission ruled against the capital club. However, a PSG spokesman has told RMC Sport that they intend to contest the ruling through the courts, having previously insisted they do not owe their former striker anything.
Mbappe joined Real Madrid in the summer in one of the most long-awaited transfers of recent memory. He has previously rejected the offer of mediation between himself and PSG and is seeking the full amount he believes he is owed.
PSG, by comparison, believe he waived the payment after agreeing to return to the first-team squad last season.
PSG’s spokesman said: “Now that the appeals committee has confirmed the opinion of the legal committee, PSG has decided to take the case to the appropriate courts, while continuing to try to find an amicable solution with the player.
“In law and in fact, the player has made clear and repeated public and private commitments that the club is simply asking him to honour and respect in view of the unprecedented advantages he has enjoyed from the Club for 7 years in Paris.
A resolution is not likely for some time given how backlogged most courts are. This is likely to rumble on for some time. In the meantime, Mbappe will play for Madrid in El Clasico against Barcelona this weekend.
