Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club head coach Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has stated that his club’s attacking potency was affected by Kwame Opoku’s injury despite the club beating South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.
In a post-game interview with Kotoko media after Kotoko beat Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa on penalties to win the 2025 Toyota Cup after the game ended goalless.
Opoku was spotted limping throughout the first half after picking up an apparent knee injury and Zito stated that the striker’s hampered physical state affected the team’s attacking play stating,
“Within 10 minutes of the game he [Kwame Opoku] got injured, definitely it will affect you. You saw that the attacking principle came down so we had to revert to another tactical play just to be able to maintain and then contain them till the goal comes.”
Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara saved two penalties to hand Kotoko the title marking its second title win in preseason for the club. Kotoko won the President’s Cup after beating Hearts of Oak 2-1.
The Porcupine Warriors have since returned to Ghana from South Africa to continue preparations for the upcoming Ghana Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup.
