The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has thrown its full support behind FIFA President Gianni Infantino ahead of the next leadership cycle, following a meeting held in Vancouver, Canada.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, on the eve of the 76th FIFA Congress. CAF member associations, including Ghana, unanimously agreed to back Infantino for re-election as FIFA President for the 2027 to 2031 term.

The FIFA presidential election is expected to be held during the 2027 FIFA Congress in Morocco, where member associations will formally vote to determine the next leadership of world football’s governing body.

Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA President since 2016. The Swiss Italian football administrator succeeded Sepp Blatter and has since overseen a series of major reforms within the organisation. His tenure has included the expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 48 teams starting from the 2026 edition, increased investment in global football development, and efforts to broaden FIFA’s commercial and competitive reach.

CAF’s endorsement adds to growing institutional backing for Infantino as he prepares for what could be another four-year term at the helm of world football.
