Tottenham Hotspur have completed one of the most eye-catching moves of the summer by signing Scotland captain Andy Robertson on a free transfer following the end of his illustrious spell at Liverpool.
The 32-year-old left-back will officially become a Tottenham player on July 1 after leaving Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to an eight-year journey at Anfield that saw him establish himself as one of the Premier League’s finest full-backs.
Robertson’s arrival provides a major boost for Tottenham as they look to build on their Premier League survival and begin a new chapter under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The North London club had previously attempted to sign the defender during the January transfer window, with an agreement reportedly reached between the two clubs before Liverpool withdrew from the deal due to squad concerns.
Having admired Robertson for several years, De Zerbi expressed his delight at securing the experienced defender’s signature.
“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” De Zerbi said.
“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.”
Robertson leaves Liverpool as one of the most successful defenders in the club’s modern history. Since arriving from Hull City in 2017, he made 378 appearances for the Reds and played a pivotal role in one of the most successful periods the club has enjoyed in recent decades.
During his time on Merseyside, he won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two League Cups and an FA Cup, while also helping Liverpool become a dominant force both domestically and in Europe.

The move also comes at a significant moment in Robertson’s career. The Scotland captain is preparing to lead his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will arrive in North London with 92 international caps and a wealth of experience at the highest level.
