Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that investigations are still ongoing following a reported robbery involving members of the Ghana national football team during their stay in Vienna.

The incident, which has raised serious concerns about team security ahead of their international fixtures, was confirmed by sources within the Ghana Football Association.

While details remain limited, it is understood that some players and officials were affected, although the exact items stolen have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Speaking on yet to be aired Point of View with Bernard Avle, Adams provided insight into the situation, emphasizing that authorities are actively working to uncover what happened.

“I called Alex on it and he says they are working around to be able to do investigations,” the minister stated. “They have reported to the police and they are checking the system.”

However, a key detail emerging from the early stages of the investigation has raised eyebrows ;  the hotel’s CCTV system was reportedly not functioning at the time of the incident.

“The unfortunate initial report we got was that the CCTV was not functioning,” Adams revealed. “So they are checking when it ceased functioning and who was in charge of the hotel.”

The revelation has sparked questions about security protocols at the team’s accommodation, especially given the high-profile nature of the Black Stars and the importance of their current international assignment.

Despite these concerns, the minister confirmed that the team is staying in a reputable facility.

“Are they in a proper hotel? Yes, they are in a proper hotel,” he added, suggesting that the incident may have been an isolated lapse rather than a systemic failure.

The timing of the robbery adds further tension, as Ghana is set to face Austria national football team later today, March 27, before taking on Germany national football team three days later in another high-profile friendly.

Both matches are part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making the disruption particularly unwelcome for the technical team and players.

As investigations continue, the focus will not only be on identifying those responsible but also on ensuring enhanced security measures moving forward, as the Black Stars aim to keep their attention firmly on matters on the pitch.
